Yasmin Vantuykom: From potty training to keynote speaker #41

All failure is failure to adapt. All success is successful adaptation.

December 2024

This Week on "Workaholics"...

December got me showing all different aspects of myself. I've had to turn on "mom" mode a bit more than usual. Our oldest sprained her ankle, so we had to carry her around everywhere as she could not walk on it. AND it was time to potty train our youngest as she goes to school in January.

Myself being a person that does not have a lot of patience, potty training gives me more stress than the average work meeting.

December is also a month full of Christmas events, keynotes and dinners. It is my favourite part of the year. However I learned the hard way in the past to also book in me time.

Switching between "mom," keynote speaker, friend, Christmas dinner(s) planner, and trying to keep a bit of sanity requires some serious multitasking. I feel like I'm playing two completely different roles at once. There’s the side of me that’s all keynotes and dressed up ready for the stage, and then there's the part of me answering questions like “Why is the sky blue?” for the 100th time that day.

But at the same time, these shifts show me just how flexible I can be, juggling all these roles with a mix of grace and chaos (mostly chaos).

Podcast of the week

First of all "Embrace the chaos"
Tip: Life will never be perfectly organized, so adapt as you go.
Example: "Potty training + keynotes in one week? Total chaos. But I’ve learned to laugh it off and go with the flow—it’s the only way to survive!"

Delegate Household Tasks to the little ones
Tip: This one is new for me, now that they are getting 'older': Treat family chores like a team project—everyone has a role!
Example: "Before the TV is turned on after dinner, we do the "get your shit together " dance: which means I put on one of their fav songs and while we dance, we clean up their toys.

Use "Micro-Moments" for productivity
Tip: Make use of small pockets of time between tasks to stay productive or recharge.
Example: "Between meetings and school runs, I squeeze in 10-minute emails, clean the kitchen or quick workout. Before I used to scroll through my phone, which did not really help.

Workaholics: Newsletter #50 Knowledge is power, knowledge shared is power multiplied. June 2025 This Week on "Workaholics"... Yesterday I experienced my first Rubicon Circle with other entrepreneurs. I believe in learning by sharing, by doing and by failing. After the whirlwind of Efluenz and the rapid growth over 6 years from 1 employee (myself) to 25+ in different countries, this has left me with a bittersweet feeling around leadership. I have experienced enormous beautiful moments with the...

Workaholics: Newsletter #49 The greatest power you possess, is the power to choose. April 2025 This Week on "Workaholics"... It's been 1 year, since I decided to change my professional path. 2 years since the decision of quitting Efluenz. Knowing I wanted to quit, did not mean I knew what my next project would be. For the ones following me on socials or know me personally, know the change has been quite drastic. 1 year ago I got conscious of my own behaviour. Not being able to focus more than...

Workaholics: Newsletter #48 If you wait until you're ready, it is almost certainly too late. April 2025 This Week on "Workaholics"... A couple of weeks ago, I was talking to a friend who has been thinking for a while about a new business idea. She's been hesitant talking about the project and told herself she was not ready to move forward. Hesitated which steps to take first, if they were the right ones or not... So relatable. With my new project coming up, I've been very hesitant as well....
