Yasmin Vantuykom: Podcast launch Scroll-A-Holics #43

A digital break, isn't a break.

January 2025

This Week on "Workaholics"...

“You know what: I’m just going to do it”

Doubts about starting a podcast. Doubts about the podcast name. Doubts about whether people will listen. Doubts about whether I “can” be a podcast host. Nothing new, unfortunately. Every time I want to do something new, I suffer from that “imposter syndrome” again.

Yet I just keep going. With doubts every day, every minute. The past few weeks it has been playing up enormously. The official launch was 2 days ago. I am grateful to my guests for wanting to come and share their story and tips. I hope from the bottom of my heart that the podcast “Scroll-A-Holics” will help people. Make them aware. Of mindless scrolling, the effect on children, teenagers, our relationships and our own bodies.

I believe in the message. I also believe that it is difficult for many to understand how I go from social media (I am not against it, but I am when we have no control over our own habits) to “Scroll-A-Holics”. I just follow my feelings and take a position that I support.

Some changes I've implemented personally after recording this episode with Dr. Inge Declercq

  • First of all, I realized it is not too late. I can rewire / train my brain
  • The wake-up call: I really have a codependancy with my smartphone. I pick it up over 300 times a day (if you think it is a lot, I'll challenge you do check your own statistics).
  • The good news: it is just a habit. You can break bad habits
  • I put my phone away during work. If I can' t see it, I'm less triggered.
  • Notifications are off. Except if someone calls me.
  • Our brains are not designed for constant stimulation. Scrolling quickly is pure microprocessing – you exhaust your brain.
  • Digital drugs and brain rot are 2 concepts that live in my head rent free each time I start scrolling.

Curious to hear what you remember after listening to the episode AND if you were able to focus for 45 minutes ;-).

Don't worry, this newsletter won't always be about the podcast. However, it is a new business medium for me. Something I've wanted to do for a long time, but I've hesitated. With the help of podcast producties and my guests, I was able to realize it!

Some reactions to the first podcast episode:

  • "Knap hoor! "
  • "Top eerste aflevering. Eye opener en super interessant"
  • "Top eerste gaste"
  • "Confronterend"
  • "Zo authentiek van u. Loving this content"
  • "Scroll-A-Holics blijkt effectief ene mega wake-up call te zijn"
  • "Had geen idee wat dit allemaal voor effect had op mijn brein en focus. Ik ga hem wat vaker wegleggen"

What I am up to next?

  • Second episode of my podcast "Scroll-A-Holics" on 27/01 with Elke Geraerts
  • Validation of my prototype
  • Corporate keynotes for my book "Workaholics": Generation WOW, Rubicon, VRT
  • Preparing the official brand launch: https://www.quyet.eu/

Workaholics: Newsletter #50 Knowledge is power, knowledge shared is power multiplied. June 2025 This Week on "Workaholics"... Yesterday I experienced my first Rubicon Circle with other entrepreneurs. I believe in learning by sharing, by doing and by failing. After the whirlwind of Efluenz and the rapid growth over 6 years from 1 employee (myself) to 25+ in different countries, this has left me with a bittersweet feeling around leadership. I have experienced enormous beautiful moments with the...

Workaholics: Newsletter #49 The greatest power you possess, is the power to choose. April 2025 This Week on "Workaholics"... It's been 1 year, since I decided to change my professional path. 2 years since the decision of quitting Efluenz. Knowing I wanted to quit, did not mean I knew what my next project would be. For the ones following me on socials or know me personally, know the change has been quite drastic. 1 year ago I got conscious of my own behaviour. Not being able to focus more than...

Workaholics: Newsletter #48 If you wait until you're ready, it is almost certainly too late. April 2025 This Week on "Workaholics"... A couple of weeks ago, I was talking to a friend who has been thinking for a while about a new business idea. She's been hesitant talking about the project and told herself she was not ready to move forward. Hesitated which steps to take first, if they were the right ones or not... So relatable. With my new project coming up, I've been very hesitant as well....
