Yasmin Vantuykom: Predict the future #44

The best way to predict the future is to create it.

January 2025

This Week on "Workaholics"...

We're one month in the New year. A January that seemed to last forever. A January that tested and destroyed (in a bad way) my stress levels. With Stella also starting school, I was on cloud 9. Finally. Grown up kids. No diapers. Well wasn't I stupid.

The flu hit all of us 4. Cleo found it difficult to adapt to her sister being at school with her. She wanted to be the big sister but also play with her friends. Work took a back seat.

My good intentions for 2025 "goede voornemens you know" went out the door. Working out, the healthy food byebye. I was drowning myself in self pity.

Good thing is, you can restart every moment. It's not because you fall off the wagon once, you cannot get back on track. So I cut the self pity and focused on what was in my control, instead of focusing on the things that were happening outside of my control.

"“Scrolling feels relaxing for a moment because of that dopamine rush, but then the energy dip follows.””

Hold on to your top priority

Get crystal clear on your top priorities and make them non-negotiable. If you want to create a future of success, you need to be ruthless about your focus. What are the top 2-3 things you absolutely want to do? Once identified, protect those —nothing else should come before them.

Personally, I hold on to the "not scrolling". Talked about the effect of this on the new podcast with Elke Geraerts. I've seen a great improvement in my work focus.

Cut out time wasters and negativity

Restarting with good intentions means making a clean break from what’s been holding you back. Identify and eliminate any habits, relationships, or environments that drain your energy or hinder your progress.

I love complaining, for a short amount of time. Otherwise the complaining just get worse and I get caught up in a negativity spiral that gets me absolutely nowhere.

Embrace hard work over quick wins

Stop chasing shortcuts. If you want to create a your own future, be prepared to do the hard work—especially when it’s tough or when results aren’t immediate. Discipline over instant gratification. Your future will be built on the hours you put in consistently, not the occasional bursts of effort.

I 100% believe you hold a lot of your own future in your hands. Asking for opportunities, creating them, opening doors...but (there is always a but) you have to create them. Take the first steps, be consistent, ask the right questions, contact the right people...

Workaholics: Newsletter #50 Knowledge is power, knowledge shared is power multiplied. June 2025 This Week on "Workaholics"... Yesterday I experienced my first Rubicon Circle with other entrepreneurs. I believe in learning by sharing, by doing and by failing. After the whirlwind of Efluenz and the rapid growth over 6 years from 1 employee (myself) to 25+ in different countries, this has left me with a bittersweet feeling around leadership. I have experienced enormous beautiful moments with the...

Workaholics: Newsletter #49 The greatest power you possess, is the power to choose. April 2025 This Week on "Workaholics"... It's been 1 year, since I decided to change my professional path. 2 years since the decision of quitting Efluenz. Knowing I wanted to quit, did not mean I knew what my next project would be. For the ones following me on socials or know me personally, know the change has been quite drastic. 1 year ago I got conscious of my own behaviour. Not being able to focus more than...

Workaholics: Newsletter #48 If you wait until you're ready, it is almost certainly too late. April 2025 This Week on "Workaholics"... A couple of weeks ago, I was talking to a friend who has been thinking for a while about a new business idea. She's been hesitant talking about the project and told herself she was not ready to move forward. Hesitated which steps to take first, if they were the right ones or not... So relatable. With my new project coming up, I've been very hesitant as well....
