Yasmin Vantuykom: Startup life: on both sides of the table #53

The riskiest thing is to take no risks.

August 2025

This Week on "Workaholics"...

Since selling Efluenz to Rossel, I’ve really been craving more space — in my schedule, but also in my head. I wanted to slow down a bit, reflect, and reconnect with what actually gives me energy: sparring with other entrepreneurs, weekly walks with people I don't know yet (yes, still happening!), sharing more online, networking....

With some financial breathing room, I also got the chance to support others — not just with time, but also financially.

That’s why I’m super proud to be one of the investors in GoFluo, a Belgian startup that just raised €1.5M to go international . The founder is Julie Vets – and what makes this even more special: she convinced three female business angels to back her (me included).

It's a risk, while I have full confidence in the company (otherwise I would not do it), it's a first for me, a new step.

At the same time, I’ve been fully focused on building Quyet, for the moment keeping it bootstrapped.

"A startup is a company that is confused about what its product is, who its customers are, and how to make money.”

Pro tip from past me to future me

Sparring with others fuels growth
One of the most underrated ways to keep evolving is to connect with others — not only your usual circle but also people you don’t know yet. Weekly walks, informal coffee chats, or online groups are great ways to get fresh ideas, new perspectives, and honest feedback.

Your story is your superpower
When you talk to investors, partners, clients or suppliers, remember it’s not just numbers and plans — it’s your passion, your journey, and your vision that will truly move people. Be authentic and open. People invest in people. People buy from people.

Build relationships before you need money
Fundraising is easier when you’ve been nurturing relationships for months or years. Share your wins, your struggles, and your learning regularly. When you finally need funds, people won’t just see a pitch — they’ll see the founder behind it.

Yasmin Vantuykom: Newsletter #65 Belief is what you do before the numbers agree. February 2025 This Week on "Scrollaholics"... I didn’t write a newsletter lately because work has been… loud. Not “busy” loud. More like existential spreadsheet loud. Because here’s the part nobody romanticizes: it takes a very specific kind of belief to keep going when the math isn’t rewarding you yet. When you’re doing a lot, reinvesting everything, and the numbers don’t reflect the effort. When progress is...

Yasmin Vantuykom: Newsletter #64 Not everything needs celebrating. But progress deserves tracking. December 2025 This Week on "Scrollaholics"... Since 2020, I’ve been keeping a Tada-Da list next to my To-Do list. It’s a simple habit: capturing what has actually been delivered, especially the things that, a year earlier, were still just plans. Here’s what made the list recently: A real leap into a new space. From concept to physical product, and from solo building to an expert community,...

Yasmin Vantuykom: Newsletter #63 The new status symbol? Being offline. November 2025 This Week on "Scrollaholics"... Offline is the new luxury. At least, that’s what Vogue says. Brands are leaning into analog experiences, tactile materials, and slower ways of living, because apparently, scrolling less is suddenly chic. Tote bags filled with books, puzzles, and journals are trending on TikTok. A flip phone or “no followers” status? Instant cool. Wearing yesterday’s micro-trends online is...
